MaryEllen Hatfield School Nursing Scholarship Awards At the 2005 Annual School Nurse Conference, we established the MaryEllen Hatfield School Nursing Scholarship fund as a memorial to MaryEllen Hatfield, South Carolina's School Health Nurse Consultant from 1980 until her retirement in 1997. MaryEllen was passionate about her work on behalf of children. The question that she consistently asked of herself and of others as a decision making guide was, "Is this in the best interest of the children?"

MaryEllen passed on March 31, 2004 and her death brought sadness statewide. In MaryEllen's honor and memory, we hope that the MaryEllen Hatfield School Nursing Scholarship will encourage school nurses to seek higher educational levels and to remind us all to ask the question, "Is this in the best interest of the children?"

Scholarship awards will be provided annually as funds are available. The scholarships will go to two nurses practicing in a school setting who are pursuing higher educational degrees. One award will be given to a licensed practical nurse, the other to a registered nurse.

Applications are due in the early fall of each year and award checks will be presented during the Awards Luncheon at the Annual School Nurse Conference in the fall.
