Standing Committees
Members of SCASN are encouraged to participate in their professional organization by serving on committees. Committees always look to welcome new members. To begin your active service and participation in SCASN, please contact any of the committee chairpersons noted below.
Executive Committee
The elected officers and the appointed chairpersons of all committees comprise the Executive Committee. The president of SCASN presides at all meetings.
Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for development of communication tools including, but not limited to, the web page and the newsletter. The committee publishes and disseminates the newsletter and other written communications of SCASN.
Continuing Education Committee

The Continuing Education Committee is responsible for planning, hosting and coordinating the presentation of continuing education programs sponsored by SCASN. In addition to the chairperson, the president-elect and at least two other members serve on the committee. The chairperson of the continuing education committee serves on the planning committee of the South Carolina Annual School Nurse Conference co-sponsored by DHEC, SDE, SCASN, SCNA, and SC Medical Society Auxiliary. The chairperson also serves as the State Liaison of the National Board for Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN).
Finance Committee

The Finance Committee oversees the fiscal management of SCASN, recommends the dues schedule, and prepares the budget. The treasurer chairs the committee.
Legislation and Professional Standards Committee
Chairperson: Kim McPherson

The Legislation and Professional Standards Committee works to develop and monitor legislation that impacts school nurse practice, school health services, school health education, and the health and quality of life of children. Also, the committee works to establish relationships with other groups who share interest in the health and academic achievement of school students in order to further promote those interests through the legislative process. At least one committee member serves on the School Nurse Task Force of the South Carolina Board of Nursing and on the South Carolina Friends of Education Coalition.
Nominations Committee

The Nominations Committee is responsible for developing a slate of eligible candidates to run for elected offices of SCASN. The committee also oversees the election process according to the bylaws.
Bylaws Committee
Chairperson: Alice Dunn

The Bylaws Committee annually reviews the SCASN Bylaws to propose changes to the membership that are necessary to keep the bylaws current with SCASN activities. The proposed changes are presented for a vote at the SCASN Annual Meeting.
